Turchynov: military salaries are a more important priority than public sector salaries
Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Alexander Turchynov states that increasing the salaries of the military should be a priority for the state and occur before increasing the salaries of public sector employees, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
He emphasized this during his stay in the area of the so-called “Joint Forces Operation”, reports the press service of the National Security and Defense Council.
Improving the logistics of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other security forces, according to Turchynov, is necessary to “preserve the professional core of the army and reliable defense of Ukraine.”
The NSDC Secretary emphasized that the financial support of contract soldiers and officers “should be a priority to grow in comparison with the salaries of other recipients of budget funds.”
“Now the budget for next year is being formed, and, accordingly, the National Security and Defense Council is preparing the country’s defense budget, where this issue should be clearly reflected,” Turchynov said, adding that he hopes for the Verkhovna Rada’s support for the country’s defense budget for 2019 .
Earlier, the Ministry of Defense announced its intention to increase, from October 1, 2018, the minimum monetary support for ordinary personnel to 9 thousand UAH, and for officers to 15,3 thousand UAH.
