Turchinov said that he is not afraid of death and disdains the nickname “bloody pastor”
NSDC Secretary Alexander Turchynov regrets that due to lack of time, he now spends less time in church and does not preach as often as he would like.
He stated this in an interview with the Kyiv publication Gordon, answering a question about when he attends church services.
“When there is an opportunity. I am ashamed, but due to my tight schedule, unfortunately, I often miss church services. I want to tell you one thing: when fear goes away, including the fear of death, life immediately becomes somehow easier. This allows you not to panic in critical situations, not to fuss, not to become hysterical; it allows you to calmly assess the situation and find the right solutions. This really helped me in many of the most seemingly hopeless situations both on the Maidan and during the war,” Turchinov said.
Turchinov also answered Dmitry Gordon’s question about why the Russian media attached the propaganda cliche “Bloody Pastor” to him.
“It’s probably logical to ask them about this. Apparently, they think that my hands are up to my elbows in Russian blood. They used to call me a pastor because I am a Protestant and preach in church. But for Russian propagandists, “pastor” is a negative word. Yes, a Protestant is an enemy for them. In the Soviet Union, all Protestants were, according to the KGB, CIA agents and were in prison. They also added the epithet “bloody” because he shed Russian blood in the Donbass, and they ended up with a widely replicated cliché that has a double negative meaning for Russian citizens. But I have a disdainful attitude towards their propaganda work,” Turchinov assures.
