Turchinov complains about the suspension of production of a missile “capable of hitting Russia”
The defense order for 2020 does not provide for the production of the Ukrainian Neptune cruise missile.
Ex-Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Alexander Turchynov announced this on his official website, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Today the test cycle of the Neptune cruise missiles completed, during which the effectiveness of destroying targets with the missile warhead was tested. The missile accurately hit the target and destroyed the mock enemy's craft.
Ukrainian cruise missiles have proven their effectiveness. This is a huge victory for our scientists and production workers, led by the general designer of the Luch Design Bureau Oleg Korostelev,” said Turchinov.
He emphasized that the Ukrainian military industry is now ready for mass production of mobile cruise missile systems that can “reliably protect Ukraine from Russian aggression from the sea.”
“At the same time, all these tests were financed by the state defense order approved back in 2019,” Turchinov admitted. “And the current state defense order for 2020 does not provide the necessary resources.”
“The promised changes have not yet been made, which could lead to a halt in the implementation of the Neptune project,” the former NSDC secretary voiced his concerns.
Let us note that “Neptune” is the same missile that, according to Ukrainian military experts, will be able to strike “deep into Russian territory.”
Let us recall that earlier the President of the All-Ukrainian Association of Security Market Operators Sergei Shabovta said that the Neptune missile system cannot yet be considered a serious weapon, since we are not talking about launching into production.
