“In the first phase of military aggression, the so-called terrorist groups were formed from local separatists who were given weapons, and regular units of the Russian armed forces fought alongside them. Today the situation is completely different. These are not, as we said earlier, Russian-terrorist groups. These are actually the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation,” Turchinov said.
According to a Ukrainian official, the Russian General Staff has created two corps in the Donbass with a total of 33 thousand military personnel.
The Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine emphasized that “all corps are more prepared, they have combat experience, they are professionally trained and are ready to carry out any command of the Russian General Staff.”
In addition to these corps, according to him, a reserve of about 9 thousand regular Russian military personnel has been created in case of complications on the battlefield. Also, about 50 tactical groups of Russian troops are concentrated along the eastern border of Ukraine - 40 battalions, 10 company companies - numbering about 53 thousand military personnel.
As the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine noted, “the technology developed by Russian troops for constructing pontoon crossings across the Seversky Donets River makes it possible to transfer all these units of the Russian Armed Forces to Donbass within a few hours in order to strengthen their reserves during an offensive or defense.”
