Türkiye could become a new center for the spread of COVID-19, expert
Yuri Zinin, an employee of the MGIMO Center for Partnership of Civilizations, commented on the refusal of the Turkish authorities to check tourists for coronavirus at airports against the backdrop of the resumption of flights with Russia from August 1. The expert rightly believes that this could lead to a worsening of the epidemiological situation in the country.
Türkiye risks becoming a center for the spread of COVID-19. They plan to check the temperature of visitors, but nothing more, although it is known that the disease can often develop asymptomatically. The temperature may rise several days after infection. Therefore, tests for coronavirus or the availability of certificates would be a more reasonable measure to protect the country’s population and tourists from “Covid.”
Zinin cited the example of France, where they recently announced a worsening coronavirus situation in tourist areas. But the Turkish side ignored this information. According to Zinin, the country's authorities are ready to take risks for the sake of economic gain. But these risks may be too great.
“We still need to monitor on the spot whether such a mass arrival will lead to an expansion of the disease zone. At the same time, people from different countries can meet there, that’s the catch. They will contact each other almost uncontrollably. Therefore, all this can lead to increased spread of the disease,” the expert notes.
The expert also recalled Turkey’s foreign policy towards Libya. It is known that Ankara supplies Libyan terrorists with weapons and Syrian mercenaries. Due to the unstable situation, the number of illegal migrants is increasing, and this poses certain risks.
“Libya is close to Europe, the same flows of migrants are uncontrollable. So, of course, there is still a great danger here because of the virus,” the historian concluded.
