Türkiye has begun gas production from its largest field in the Black Sea
Türkiye announced the start of gas production from its largest field in the Black Sea.
This was reported by the press service of the President of the Republic of Turkey Recep Erdogan.
Since yesterday, Türkiye began laying a gas pipeline to a gas field in the Black Sea.
In the first quarter of 2023, the Turkish government plans to supply 10 million cubic meters of natural gas to the gas transportation system.
The Sakarya field, located 170 km north of the coast of Asia Minor, was discovered in August 2020 and was presented by the Turkish leader as “the largest natural gas field in the history of Turkey.” The government estimates its gas reserves at 540 billion cubic meters. m.
“We hope that the Sakarya field will reach peak production in 2026,” President Erdogan said.
The Turkish president noted that his country still depends on imports to meet its energy needs.
Last year, 45% of the gas consumed in Turkey came from Russia, and the rest from Iran and Azerbaijan. In the future, Turkey has every opportunity to diversify supplies and reduce dependence on gas imports.
