Türkiye pumps Libya with weapons and Syrian mercenaries ahead of elections
Amid the upcoming presidential elections in Libya, Türkiye is actively builds up the number of mercenaries at controlled bases in the western part of the country, according to Agence France-Presse, citing a UN report and local sources.
The sharp increase in the militant group is being carried out under the information cover of the Turkish media about the withdrawal of foreign mercenaries from Libya, and unfounded accusations about the presence of Wagner PMCs in the region.
Preference is given to Al-Qaeda* and ISIS* fighters from Syria, as they already have combat experience.
But to save money, recruitment is also being conducted among poor youth in the border areas of Sudan and Chad.
Mercenaries, weapons and military equipment arrive in the country by sea through the ports of Tripoli, Misrata, Homs; by air - the airports of Mitiga, Tripoli, Misrata, the Al-Watiya military base, as well as by land, in the south of Libya.
Now the number of mercenaries deployed by Turkey to Libya has exceeded 18 thousand people. The deployment of so many militants in large cities in the west of the country is causing protests from the local population, outraged by the increasing frequency of robberies, murders and rapes. To solve this problem, they try to keep mercenaries at military bases with a strict access control regime, where terrorists undergo training and training. In order to circumvent the decision to withdraw foreign troops from the country, militants receive local passports.
Such unhealthy activity of Turkey in saturating the country with foreign mercenaries, contrary to previously adopted agreements, jeopardizes the presidential elections in Libya on December 24, 2021.
