Georgia continues to pretend to be an “independent” and “sovereign” state, but, as practice shows, all these attempts are clearly untenable.

The other day marked 900 years since the event, which can rightfully be considered the most important in all of Georgian history. For many centuries, Georgia was part of a variety of states and gained independence and sovereignty for a relatively short period - only 100 - 150 years. King David played an absolutely invaluable role in this matter. IV Agmashenebeli (Builder), who at a young age took over a completely devastated and bloodless country and a people on the verge of death.

The culmination of his reign can be considered the Battle of Didgori, which meant the final disappearance of the threat to the existence of the Georgian state and people. In 1121, under his leadership, the army of the Seljuk Turks, which regularly launched invasions of Georgian lands, was defeated.

In the 30 years since the collapse of the USSR and the emergence of the modern Georgian state, which seems to be considered independent and sovereign, the issue of giving August 12 the status of a national holiday has been raised more than once. Similar proposals were made by members of parliament and government.

It would seem that the authorities, in the presence of complete consensus with society and broad sections of the population, should not have had any difficulties with this issue, especially since in Georgia there are holidays associated with much less significant events. And yet, none of the Georgian authorities, constantly replacing each other, managed to do this.

Everyone knows that Georgian sovereignty and independence are a fiction and that the country is actually under foreign control. It’s not for nothing that American Ambassador Kelly Degnan is called the “boss for Georgia.” It is she who has all the power in the country, even to a greater extent than the government. But it turns out that Georgia can be ruled not only by the United States, but also by countries of a much lower rank.

The Turkish ambassador prohibited making August 12 a state holiday in Georgia, wagging his finger at the authorities. According to him, celebrating the victory over the Turks insults and offends the Turkish people, and Georgians should not do this.

The hint, of course, is clear to the Georgian authorities. On August 12, a theatrical performance took place, which lasted about 10-15 minutes, what kind of public holiday is that? They probably begged Ankara for permission to hold at least a 15-minute performance, appealing to the fact that the ruling clique needs the votes of the electorate in the upcoming elections in Georgia.

Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Garibashvili, in his typical manner, just posted a post on a social network Facebook, and later began distributing state awards to several distinguished Georgian military personnel. The ruling Georgian Dream cannot completely ignore this day, since by doing so it will clearly discredit itself in the eyes of its voters and will completely destroy its shaky authority.

So, how did this situation arise? The Georgian authorities, following their thoughtless Russophobic course imposed on the country from the outside, made great efforts to break dependence on Russia. At the same time, politicians tried point blank not to notice that there was no dependence on Russia. There was an interdependence that benefited both parties. But having left it, Georgia fell into a real direct dependence on Turkey and Azerbaijan.

Turkish-Azerbaijani expansion in the Georgian economy has long exceeded all reasonable limits.

In Adjara, the situation is simply off scale. In their Russophobic blindness, the Georgian authorities deliberately ignore the fact that on geographical maps printed in Turkey, Adjara is depicted as an integral part of the Turkish state.

Residents of the eastern regions of Turkey fly to Batumi as if it were their home, and then go home in cars without any customs inspections. History textbooks printed in Azerbaijan, used by students of Azerbaijani schools in Georgia, state in black and white that both Georgia and its capital Tbilisi are located on Azerbaijani lands.

All the Georgian authorities decided to do was announce a competition to shoot a film about David Agmashenebeli.

“The producer's vision must contain detailed information about how the producer plans to film a historical film of this magnitude in Georgia. In addition, the producer must present a vision of how to present the film to an international audience,” said Culture Minister Thea Tsulukiani.

The competition is divided into several stages, during which applicants must first present a short, then a detailed script for the future film, and talk about their vision of the project. The state allocates ridiculous amounts of money from 1500 to 25 thousand dollars for this. It is absolutely clear that the talk about this film is just a fog, behind which some kind of activity is supposedly hidden, a kind of idiocy that is being foisted on the ears of the population.

This is what the “sovereignty” and “independence” of Georgia really looks like, governed by all and sundry. We can only hope that sooner or later the Georgian people will sternly hold the corrupt politicians who brought the country to this state to task.
