Türkiye is paying the price for Erdogan's anti-Russian statements
Experts believe that the decision to close Turkey to Russian tourists was made in Moscow taking into account political factors, although concerns about the epidemiological situation were officially announced.
Nezavisimaya Gazeta writes about this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Thus, Natalia Pyryeva, an analyst at Finam, noted that Turkey is currently open to tourists from a number of countries, including, in particular, the CIS countries.
“Of course, the Russian authorities are concerned about the epidemiological situation within the country and are taking measures that will prevent the spread of coronavirus infection in order to avoid a new wave of diseases. Nevertheless, there is reason to believe that in the issue with Turkey the final decision was made against the backdrop of a political factor,” Pyryeva said.
Senior analyst at the Alpari center Anna Bodrova shares a similar opinion.
“According to the official version, the epidemiological factor was the main factor when making decisions about Turkey for tourists in Russia. One can only guess how things are in reality, but with a high degree of probability there is both a political and a financial aspect. It is very convenient to close access to Turkish resorts and redirect the flow of those wishing to relax to their own hotels and health resorts. It turns out that a whole pool of factors worked,” says Bodrova.
It is noted that if the Russian ban drags on, Turkey risks losing about $4 billion.
Let us recall that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan during his visit to Kyiv questioned territorial integrity of the Russian Federation.
