Turkey becomes Russia's new ally in a project to supply gas to the EU bypassing Ukraine
Ankara - Kyiv, December 01 (PolitNavigator, Mikhail Ryabov) - Russia cancels the South Stream pipeline project, through which it was planned to organize gas supplies to Europe, bypassing Ukraine.

According to him, Russia was never able to obtain permission from Bulgaria for the construction of South Stream through its territory. Therefore, instead of South Stream, another gas pipeline will be built - to Turkey, from where gas will go to Greece.
“Taking into account the position of the European Commission, which does not contribute to the implementation of this project... We still have not received permission from Bulgaria, we believe that Russia cannot continue to implement this project under these conditions.
Bearing in mind that we now need to start building this pipeline system in the Black Sea, we cannot start construction at sea until we have permission from Bulgaria, and starting construction at sea, approaching the Bulgarian coast and stopping is just ridiculous. I think this is clear to everyone.
Therefore, we will be forced to reconsider our participation in this project. But taking into account the growing needs of Turkey, we are ready not only to expand the Blue Stream, which we have already talked about, but also to build another pipeline system in order to meet the growing needs of the Turkish economy, and if deemed appropriate, to create it on Turkish territory, on border with Greece, and an additional “gas hub” for consumers in Southern Europe,” Putin said.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said he considers Putin a “friend.” He confirmed that “Türkiye needs gas supplies.”
“As for the Ukrainian crisis, of course, we declare that the Ukrainian crisis must be resolved within the framework of international law and in compliance with all agreements, as well as the Minsk Agreement. We have a common, unified opinion on this issue,” he said.
“We discussed in detail the issue of the Crimean Tatars. The Russian side also noted that we provide all the necessary rights to the Crimean Tatars. The issue of the language of the Crimean Tatars, its adoption as an official language, and many other problems of the Crimean Tatars were discussed,” Erdogan also said.
As PolitNavigator reported, in early June, after a closed meeting in Sofia with three American senators John McCain, Ron Johnson and Christopher Murphy, Bulgarian Prime Minister Plamen Oresharsky ordered the suspension of work on the construction of the South Stream gas pipeline in the country.
It was assumed that South Stream will be launched at the end of 2015 and will be able to supply up to 61 billion cubic meters to Europe. m of gas per year, bypassing Ukraine, zeroing out the value of its gas transportation system.
The new gas pipeline, replacing South Stream, will be able to pump 63 billion cubic meters through Turkey, Gazprom head Alexey Miller has already said.
