“I don’t see Turkey.” Saakashvili recognized Russia's victory in the Caucasus
Russia in Nagorno-Karabakh is repeating the Georgian scenario of the early 90s, which led to the declaration of independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia in 2008.
The fugitive ex-President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili stated this on the air of the talk show “Freedom of Speech by Savik Shuster,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Saakashvili, Turkey, which supports Baku, did not win any victory in the conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia, while Russia achieved a military presence in the region.
“I don’t see a victory here, frankly speaking, no Turkey, because Turkey is not present in a military sense... The story is different - Russian troops appeared on the territory of Azerbaijan (they were already on the territory of Armenia). A time bomb has appeared for many years to come. We know this from Georgia. Now the same situation is a clear analogy.
In the 90s, Russia played a role in Abkhazia, helped local separatists, entered directly, expelled half a million Georgians from there, expelled Georgian troops from there, so they came to the weakened Shevardnadze and said: “Sign everything we tell you.” In the same way, they come up to Pashinyan and say: “You will sign everything we say,” and they installed Russian peacekeepers.
What exploded in our country in 2008 was a story connected with the so-called peacekeepers of the 90s. That is, they have now done exactly what they did in our country in the 90s,” Saakashvili said.
Let us remind you that the fighting in the zone of the Georgian-Ossetian conflict began on August 8, 2008 with a massive artillery shelling by the Georgian army of the capital of South Ossetia, Tskhinval. On the same day, Russia announced an operation to force peace between the conflicting parties and sent its forces into the region.
