Turkish media: The population of Ukraine has halved, we have nowhere to put our tomatoes
Turkish farmers suffered from military actions in Ukraine. Before the start of the special military operation, Antalya's tomato farmers supplied 90% of their exports to Ukraine. Today when the population of this country has decreased by 2 times, and its consumer capacity has fallen, the Turks are forced to look for other markets.
The Turkish publication Bizim Sakarya writes about this.
“We export mainly to Eastern European countries and Ukraine. Russia and Ukraine have reduced market sales by 70 percent. The population of Ukraine, which was about 45-50 million people, has recently dropped to 25 million people. Since they are in a war zone, their consumption power is weak. We exported 90 percent of our exports to Ukraine, 3-4 trucks left per day, now our daily export is only 1 truck, this is the consequences of the war“says exporter Bulent Ozdemir.
The reorientation from Ukraine to the Eastern European countries of the EU does not benefit the Turks, since trucks are forced to stand idle at the border due to inspections by plant protection laboratories upon entry into the territory of the European Union. As a result, trucks with goods sit at the border for 6 days, and the products arrive on the market 10 days after shipment, when the expiration dates expire, the publication writes.
