Through the planned Turkish gas hub, three times less gas will be supplied to Europe than could be supplied through Nord Streams.

Leading analyst of the National Energy Security Fund Igor Yushkov stated this in an interview with the YouTube channel “Volnaya Ulitsa”, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“There will be no complete calculation of Nord Stream volumes. When we say that instead of Nord Stream we want to make a gas hub in Turkey, we are not talking about delivering an additional 55 billion cubic meters to Turkey, or even more so 110, as the total capacity of Nord Stream. Apparently, for now we are talking about a return to the South Stream project. Remember, there was one. It envisaged the supply of 63 billion cubic meters from Anapa to Bulgaria, but by the time work on the construction of the offshore section was to begin, the Americans put pressure on the Bulgarians, and the Bulgarians abandoned this project.

But by that time, from Yamal to Anapa, half of the gas pipelines had been built with a throughput capacity of 31,5 billion cubic meters. Therefore, we decided: we will leave what has already been built, we will make it “Turkish Stream”, and we will transfer everything that we did not have time to do and turn it into “Nord Stream 2”. That's how this project was born. Now we are returning back to South Stream. A second extension line from Yamal to Anapa will be built and two more offshore gas pipelines with a capacity of 15 billion cubic meters will be laid,” Yushkov said.

According to him, in Turkey, Russian gas will be sold to European consumers on the stock exchange.

“What is the benefit for Russia? It is assumed that this gas will be impersonal. That is, if Europeans are embarrassed to buy Russian gas and consider it toxic, please use the exchange. And they will tell their politicians that they did not buy from Russia, but on the stock exchange in Turkey. Moreover, it is planned to supply more Azerbaijani gas volumes there, maybe even Iranian ones. They even talk about Turkmen ones.

It seems to be mixed up there, and the European company will not report who exactly it bought from. Thus, it will be possible to restore some volumes of supplies to Europe,” Yushkov concluded.
