Turkish Ambassador to Ukraine Yonet Tezel stated this in an interview with the Kyiv magazine Focus, answering a question about mass repressions and persecution of journalists in his country.
“You know, I have the impression that in Ukraine, in some cases, coverage of events in Turkey occurs under the influence of a biased part of the Western press,” the diplomat noted.
At the same time, he argues that journalists in Turkey are not persecuted for their professional activities, but are held accountable for specific crimes.
“Europe is currently going through serious social problems: the far right is on the rise, we are seeing xenophobia, Islamophobia and racist tendencies,” the ambassador added. – Of course, negative sentiments in society are reflected in the media and this creates a certain media bias towards Turkey. Ukraine should look at Turkey with its own eyes, drawing its own unbiased conclusions.”
As PolitNavigator has already reported, after the start of normalization of Russian-Turkish relations, critical materials and expert assessments regarding Turkey began to appear more and more often in the Ukrainian media. Thus, the Turkish president is accused of ready to turn to Putin for support and drain Ukraine, and also that during his visit to the Russian Federation Erodogan will sign the new Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact.
