Just a year ago, Ukrainians were flying to Tel Aviv, Paris, Istanbul, Tbilisi and Prague at this time. Following the cancellation of WizzAir flights, flights will be limited mainly to Istanbul. In general, the volume of ticket orders decreased by 50-70%.
The picture is similar with charter flights. “If earlier companies easily ordered charters and then filled flights by selling last-minute travel packages, now instead of 10 flights to some Greek island they order only one,” says commercial director of the travel company Piligrim-M Lyudmila Mishchenko.
The volume of spending by Ukrainians on vacation has also decreased sharply. If previously wealthy clients bought a trip for 4-5 thousand euros per family, now their budget is limited to 2-3 thousand euros for four. “The one who paid 1,5 thousand euros per family is now asking to find something up to 1 thousand euros in order to relax with his wife and child,” the travel company “Pilgrim-M” clarified.
Instead, more and more people are asking for combined bus tours around Europe (excursions + seaside holidays), for example, to Italy or Greece. True, if earlier travelers took bus tours for 300-400 euros per person, now they cost 100-150 euros.
Now Ukrainians are forced to go on vacation for a few days to the closest EU country - Slovakia, but no further, and then only in their cars with a motel reservation for 3-4 nights.
For example, a year ago in February 2014, Spanish Barcelona was popular only at the beginning of the economic crisis, and this winter it was replaced by Bukovel. But if for a week in Spain you had to pay 800-1000 euros per person (including flights and accommodation), then in Ukraine it will be three times cheaper.
