The Turks took back their words about the purchase of Russian fighters. Waiting for deliveries of American aircraft
It is premature to talk about Turkey purchasing Russian fighters; Ankara still expects to receive American F-35 aircraft, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This was stated today by Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar.
“At this stage, it is too early to say whether we will purchase Russian fighters. We must wait and see how events develop. Türkiye is an independent state, and it will do what it sees fit. If the US refuses to meet its F-35 supply obligations, we can find other suppliers. There are many aircraft produced in the world, and finding an option is not a problem. But we want to cooperate with the United States because they are our partners,” Akar said on NTV.
He added that Ankara has explained the situation to its American partners many times, and US President Donald Trump admits that it was right.
“Trump also told his colleagues: they (Turkey) paid, you don’t give them planes - what’s the logic?” We are not clients, but partners of this program. We paid the tranche and fulfilled all the conditions. We are not going to transfer the F-35 encryption system to anyone; this is also important for us. We proposed creating a commission, and Trump supported it,” added the Turkish minister
