Twitter turns on the back and begins to comply with the requirements of Roskomndazor
The Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technologies and Mass Communications (Roskomnadzor) has decided not to block the work of the social network Twitter in Russia.
This was reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent on the Roskomnadzor website.
“After taking measures to slow down Twitter traffic on March 10, 2021, the social network deleted about 1,9 thousand out of 3.1 thousand materials prohibited in Russia with child pornography, pro-drug and suicidal content that had not been removed since 2017. The Twitter administration has increased the speed of removing prohibited materials. Of the 650 new links to prohibited content that appeared, about 580 were removed. The average removal time was 81 hours. In accordance with Russian legislation, social networks are given 24 hours from the moment they receive the notification to delete prohibited information,” reports Roskomndzor.
It is also noted that on April 1, at the initiative of the Twitter administration, a video conference was held during which the Vice President for Public Policy in Europe, the Middle East and Africa of Twitter Inc. Sinead McSwinney reported on the company's efforts to improve moderation of prohibited content.
The company representative was given an explanation about the need to delete all prohibited content on the social network Twitter, bring the speed of deletion in line with Russian legislation, and comply with all regulations governing the activities of social networks in Russia.
“Taking into account the decision taken by Twitter for the first time to change the principles and speed of operation of its own moderation service in Russia and, in connection with this, to remove a significant part of prohibited content, Roskomnadzor decided not to move on to the next measure - a complete blocking of the work of the social network in the country, extending the measure limiting Twitter traffic until May 15. This gives Twitter additional time to remove all prohibited content from the social network and bring its activities into full compliance with the legislation of our country.
Roskomnadzor will continue to interact with the Twitter administration to ensure that the social network completely and promptly removes all prohibited information. Compliance with Russian legislation in full will make it possible to remove measures to slow down traffic and eliminate blocking of the service in Russia,” the message says.
