Yarema Dukh, the coordinator of the team that runs the official Twitter account of Ukraine, spoke about this in an interview with the Kyiv publication ain.ua.

Exchange of caustic remarks on Twitter prompted a statement made by Russian President Vladimir Putin on May 29 during a joint press conference with French President Emmanuel Macron, who noted that the history of bilateral relations between his country and France began in the XNUMXth century, with the marriage of the Kiev princess Anna Yaroslavna.

The Twitter account of Ukraine played on this topic, the official account of Russia and the Russian Foreign Ministry responded to it, and the dispute between the countries attracted the attention of many world media

As Dukh said, the official accounts of Ukraine on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter are run by a team of three people.

“We started in June last year and are the communications team of the Presidential Administration... Sometimes we involve the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. These social networks are not our main job: I, for example, deal with our contacts with foreign media for the president,” he said.

The coordinator assures that Ukraine’s Twitter is apolitical and publishes beautiful pictures of nature and architecture, as well as links to modern music.

“Our Twitter, like Facebook and Instagram, do not exist to troll Russia. We are simply talking about the life of the country - who knows, maybe someone will decide to come just after a few funny tweets. In terms of content, we are quite free, but we ourselves understand that there are certain limits when you write on behalf of the state. If the content concerns international politics, then we show it to our colleagues at the Foreign Ministry,” he explained.

Dukh said that one of his colleagues drew attention to Putin’s statement about Anna Yaroslavna.

“We... were a little skeptical about this at first; we were all just getting home and decided to postpone the reaction until the morning. I remembered ma'am, in which there were various old churches and monasteries in Kyiv, and at that time in Moscow there was a forest. Together we wrote a text and made a picture, tweeted... Honestly, I didn’t expect the Russians to respond to this. But five hours later they burst out with tweets about “one people” and “let’s live together.” Here, 2/3 of our team have master’s degrees in history, and I’m also interested in this thing, so parallels with the USSR immediately emerged,” he noted.

According to the coordinator, after the squabble with Russia, Ukraine’s Twitter received an increase of 5000 followers in one day.

“Impressions – 5,6 million, the audience is still growing. What is important is that these are almost mostly foreigners; this is the audience that we primarily need. For comparison, our organic growth per month was 900-1200 people (we do not buy advertising), he noted.

The spirit emphasized that if several people, as a result of this dispute, learned about Ukraine and became interested in its history, “this is the best result.”
