Tyagnibok members gave a posthumous award to a UPA militant who unsuccessfully disguised himself on a Christmas tree from Muscovites
At the Fifth Bandera Readings held at the Kyiv City Hall, the “Svoboda” award of the “Knights of the OUN-UPA” was presented. Among those awarded posthumously was UPA militant Vasily Nebesiychuk, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

The website of the Svoboda party describes the details of the battle in which Nebesiychuk died.
“A group of 1500 “red shoulder straps” surrounded Kostivka. The fierce battle lasted more than two hours, as five UPA elders stubbornly fought back against 1500 punitive forces. Just think - one against three hundred. Does the history of wars know such a balance of forces between the warring parties? Only fear of the courage of the rebels could force the NKVDists to throw so many people into battle.”
As a result, the Svoboda website says, Nebesiychuk disguised himself on the Christmas tree and “the Muscovites had almost passed him, but his dog, with whom he had never been separated, gave him away.” They began to demand that he surrender, but Nebesiychuk shouted “Glory to Ukraine” and blew himself up with a grenade.
