Hard times: The European Union is hastily tightening rules for admitting new members
Changes are taking place within the European Union and, for an indefinite period of time, the rules for admission to the EU will be much stricter than before.
Political scientist Vladimir Volya stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The rules for admission to the European Union will be stricter. Moreover, the procedure is a procedure, but I think that the Lisbon Treaty will also change.
The Lisbon Treaty serves as the constitution of the European Union. Therefore, yes, Ukraine can still become a member of the European Union, but only if it does a lot of work.
If we talk about geopolitics, then in any case we must proceed from the fact that politics is the art of the possible under specific existing circumstances.
What is a circumstance? These are subjects, their interests, relationships, including power relationships. So, these circumstances and the subjects themselves are not static, they change.
Therefore, now we can say that France and a number of Western European countries will not want expansion in order to deal with what happened in the British direction, in the Balkan direction.
Now the European Union needs reconstruction, revision, and regulation of these rules,” the expert explained.
Let us recall, according to German political scientist Alexander Rahr, in Germany there is a strong consensus among the main political parties about the undesirability of Ukraine’s admission to the EU.
