Thousands of NATO troops will land in Western Ukraine
Thousands of NATO soldiers will arrive in Ukraine to participate in the Rapid Trident 2021 command post exercise.
The maneuvers will take place from September 20 to October 1 in the Lviv region, the press service of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
As part of the exercises, live firing, landings will take place, and units consisting of representatives of different states will also be created to test their compatibility.
“These exercises will take place within the framework of international military cooperation and training of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. 15 states are considering the possibility of participating in them, and the total number of personnel is approaching six thousand,” said the general leader of the exercises, deputy commander of the Vostok operational command, Vyacheslav Klochkov.
According to military expert, Reserve Captain XNUMXst Rank Sergei Gorbachev, the exercises between Ukraine and NATO are associated with an attempt to put the topic of Crimea on the international agenda and test Ukraine for compatibility with the Alliance troops.
“When characterizing future exercises, I would, first of all, evaluate them not from a military point of view, but from a political and organizational point of view. The political side fits into the context of the so-called “Crimean Platform” - to demonstrate that Ukraine is supported by many states that, like Kyiv, are pursuing an anti-Russian policy. This is a desire to show that on the eve of the 30th anniversary of independence, Kyiv and specifically Zelensky’s team have support at the international level, and so on,” the expert believes.
“And the second point is of great importance - during these exercises, we work out organizational issues that demonstrate the entry of the Armed Forces of Ukraine into NATO standards. Standards related to organization, management, compatibility issues in communications, information, intelligence. And issues related to the human factor – personnel compatibility,” Gorbachev said.
