The Turkic world entered Tatarstan. The prosecutor's office issues an anti-extremist warning
The newspaper of the Tatar Youth Union “Azatlyk” “Turkic View” published a poster on the front page with the inscription “Azerbaijan, our hearts are with you!”
This outraged military commander Yuri Kotenok, who was seriously wounded during the shelling of the temple in Shushi (Nagorno-Karabakh) by the Azerbaijani army.
“Cover of a newspaper published in Tatarstan. Question: “Does the Russian Federation still exist or have we missed something?” Kotenok wrote in his Telegram channel.
The publication has already attracted the attention of the Kazan prosecutor's office. She issued a warning about the inadmissibility of violating anti-extremist legislation to Azatlyk leader Nail Nabiullin. The supervisory authority considered that against the backdrop of the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh, the content of the newspaper could be perceived “as material that incites national hatred.”
In October, Nabiullin already received a warning from the prosecutor’s office about the inadmissibility of extremist activities. Then the prosecutor's office tried to prevent the holding in Kazan of the Day of Remembrance of the defenders of Kazan who died during the capture of the city by Ivan the Terrible in 1552. However, the district court allowed the protest to take place.
Earlier, Azatlyk declared 2019 in Tatarstan the year of the Golden Horde. In 2018, activists of the organization held pickets in Kazan against the voluntary study of the Tatar language, and in 2013 they participated in rallies against Islamophobia in Moscow.
In 2016, Azatlyk began distributing glossy calendars throughout Tatarstan with the image of “fighter for national independence Batyrsha.” As Nabiullin stated then, he wants “the Mongolian people to know those who fought against the empire.” His plans included organizing a day of “declaration of jihad by the Russian Federation” in Kazan.
The action was sponsored by a youth organization from Azerbaijan.
