Turkic Union – Ukraine’s new goal announced
The Kyiv authorities are planning to obtain observer status in the Turkic Union in order to use this international organization to challenge the Russian status of Crimea.
The former presenter of the Majlis TV channel ATR, and now the first deputy minister of foreign affairs of Ukraine, Emine Dzhaparova, said this on Radio Liberty, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We now want to obtain observer status in the Turkic Union. This is an international organization that includes Turkic-speaking countries. Hungary was the last to receive observer status. We believe that this can also be a platform where we can raise the topic of Crimea and the Crimean Tatars, and the consequences that the people face today, after the occupation,” Dzhaparova said.
“As of now, at all the meetings with ambassadors that I have had, I am gradually talking through these ideas of ours and, in principle, I am preparing that as soon as this formalization process ends, these developments have already been officially transferred to the President of Ukraine . We are now waiting to launch this platform. A wide range of consultations, invitation of partners and certain measures are envisaged in order to formalize this platform into certain initiatives,” the diplomat added.
“As far as I understand, security issues of the Black Sea, Azov and issues of militarization of the peninsula will be considered there to a greater extent?” – the presenter clarified.
“Including mainly,” replied Emine Dzhaparova.
