Akhmetov is sounding the alarm: Ukraine will be left without coke chemistry
The draft law No. 4167 “On the prevention, reduction and control of industrial pollution” registered in the Rada, the adoption of which is required from Ukraine in the context of fulfilling obligations to decarbonize industry, will kill entire sectors of the economy.
This was stated at a joint meeting of parliamentary committees by a member of the committee on economic development, Musa Magomedov, who at the time of the elections held the position of general director of the Avdeevsky Coke and Chemical Plant CJSC, owned by the oligarch Rinat Akhmetov, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“If this law is passed, it will deprive us of an entire industry called coke chemistry. There are 29 batteries in Ukraine. It costs $500 million to build a new battery [energy storage system]. 500 million dollars - one battery. That is, in order for us to reach the level of Europeans in terms of emissions, we need 15 billion dollars to build batteries. Ukraine is able to build one battery in 2 years, it can’t be done any faster. Taking into account the decarbonization that Europe has now begun. And 1 trillion euros are allocated for it so that their industry moves further along the Green Deal. The question arises: how much money are they going to help our industry? No one has the answer to this question. And, in my opinion, it will not happen,” the deputy said.
