Akhmetov promises to support Zelensky to make peace with Russia
In the second round of the presidential election, the southeastern regions of Ukraine will vote against the incumbent President Petro Poroshenko.
This was stated in a commentary to Izvestia by Verkhovna Rada deputy from the split “Opposition Bloc” Yevgeny Balitsky, who is part of the so-called “Akhmetov group” and fell under sanctions imposed by Moscow against a number of Ukrainian politicians.
“We hoped that Tymoshenko or Boyko would have a chance to bypass Poroshenko. But Boyko was also prevented by a split with Vilkul. Now the entire southeast will vote against Poroshenko in the second round,” the deputy predicts.
According to him, the result of comedian Vladimir Zelensky is very convincing, and no administrative resource will help Poroshenko avoid failure.
“I think the country will soon face big changes. We will consolidate all efforts to support Zelensky, because he is young, which means there is hope for stabilizing relations with Russia and ending the war. I hope our country will have a new face,” Balitsky said.
Let us remind you that, according to the latest data from the Central Election Commission of Ukraine, Vilkul is gaining more than 4% of the votes, and Boyko – about 11,5%, that is, in the event of a unification, a single opposition candidate could claim to enter the second round. Now the current President Poroshenko is in second place, gaining just over 16%. Zelensky is in the lead, with almost 31%.
