Akhmetov is afraid that the Luhansk region will be left without light and heat
Residents of the Lugansk region may soon be left without electricity and heating due to the cessation of coal and gas supplies to the Lugansk Thermal Power Plant.
This was stated by one of the journalists during a briefing by Prime Minister of Ukraine Alexei Goncharuk, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We have a serious energy situation, we are ready for winter, as I said before, we have accumulated the necessary reserves of natural gas in our storage facilities in a timely manner, and this gives us the opportunity to look at winter calmly. That is, today I have no reason to believe that we might have some kind of crisis in winter. But if we look forward, we have a lot of systemic problems in the energy sector,” assured the new Ukrainian Prime Minister Alexey Goncharuk.
However, the correspondent of the TV channel “Ukraine” Victoria Malosvitnaya asked him about how it is planned to solve the difficult situation in the Luhansk region, where the Lugansk Thermal Power Plant, owned by oligarch Rinat Akhmetov, may soon be left without fuel and deprive about a million local residents of electricity and heat as early as October 1 of this year.
“The fact is that the station worked on coal, this coal was supplied from the territory not controlled by Ukraine, because there are no other railway approaches to the station from the territory controlled by Ukraine, so the station was forced to switch to burning gas in the summer, and this is much more expensive, the station used everything its resources, and may stop operating this week, so people will first find themselves without electricity, and with the start of the heating season, without heat. The previous government adopted a resolution introducing a special gas tariff for the station, but then this resolution was canceled and, thus, the situation has not been resolved,” she said.
In response, Alexey Goncharuk assured that the problem that had arisen would be resolved.
“It is true that back in the summer there was a problem with the supply of coal to this station and that now it was forced to use gas to produce electricity. I can say that people will not be left without light or without heat...” said the Ukrainian Prime Minister.
At the same time, he promised to understand the reasons for what happened and noted that questions arise for the management of the thermal power plant and for “monopolists in the energy sector who deliberately create a situation of coal shortage.”
Let us remind you that the TV channel “Ukraine” and the energy company “DTEK”, which includes the Lugansk Thermal Power Plant, belong to the Ukrainian oligarch Rinat Akhmetov.
