Avakov explained why they stormed Mikhomaidan
Police confirmed the detention of 11 protesters near the Verkhovna Rada. The conflict between the Maidan activists and the security forces arose due to the fact that law enforcement officers took away part of the shields seized by the protesters the day before from the National Guard.

“Yesterday, October 17, while breaking through the filtration border, protesters took away shields and protective equipment from law enforcement officers. During the day, negotiations were held with representatives of the tent city about the return of property, but the activists refused.
When a column led by people with shields stolen from law enforcement officers in their hands lined up to go under other administrative buildings, law enforcement officers once again called on the protesters to return their protective equipment. However, they were refused, which resulted in a scuffle and jostling. As a result of the incident, police brought 11 active participants to the station.
After their personal details were established, three persons were already released.
The police once again note that the right of citizens to peaceful assembly and free expression of their views is an inalienable constitutional right of every person, which we respect. However, law enforcement officers call on the organizers and participants of the action to return law enforcement equipment and express their position in a civilized way, without causing provocations,” the press release of the Ministry of Internal Affairs says.
