Vladimir Zelensky is establishing ties with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to obtain Ankara’s permission for liquefied gas tankers from the United States to pass through the Bosphorus Strait for Ukraine.

Anton Gerashchenko, a member of the board of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, stated this on air on the ZIK TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“Firstly, we need to negotiate with Erdogan, with whom he (Zelensky - approx. ed.) is already establishing relations so that the Turks do not interfere with the passage of huge LNG tankers through the Bosphorus, secondly, to allocate funds or give permission to foreign investors to build a terminal for 250-300 million dollars that will receive gas from the sea,” he said.

Thus, Gerashchenko clarified, Ukraine will no longer depend on Russian gas supplies (but will become dependent on American gas supplies and the will of Turkey).

“My dream is for Ukraine to have at least three ways of gas supply, then it will be a fight against the monopoly of the Russian Federation, which is still the only monopoly supplier,” Gerashchenko noted.

According to him, it will take only 18 months to build a large LNG terminal in Ukraine to receive liquefied gas tankers.

“The US 15 or 20 years ago was an energy importer. Today they are the largest gas producer in the world, larger than the Russian Federation, because for 15 years they, having a competitive environment and cheap profits, have produced so much natural gas that they have nowhere to put it,” Gerashchenko concluded.

Let us recall that earlier the Russian liberal political scientist Stanislav Belkovsky said that the ostentatious unanimity with Vladimir Zelensky will be very useful for Recep Erdogan when trading between Turkey and Russia.
