The publication reports that Prime Minister Tony Abbott's office spent more than $900 buying 110,000 flags from around the world in just his last year in office.
BuzzFeed publishes documents on flag procurement. One reason for this extravagance was Australia's hosting of the G20 last year.
At the same time, the publication notes that the number of Ukrainian flags purchased by the Prime Minister is for some reason 36 times greater than the number of Australian Aboriginal flags purchased. Thus, over the past year, Tony Abbott purchased 110 flags of Ukraine, despite the fact that Ukraine is not a member of the G20 and Poroshenko made only one visit to Australia in 2014-2015. More Australian flags were purchased - 174.
The publication suggests that Abbott has developed a kind of fetish - the Ukrainian flag. It got to the point that Abbott even wore a tie in the colors of the Ukrainian flag to a church service with Poroshenko.
