Donbass has a huge resource of trust in Russia, but very little time
Donbass as an industrial region will be completely destroyed if the current unrecognized status and threat of hostilities continue for another 5-10 years.
Donetsk journalist Ramil Zamdykhanov stated this during a discussion in Moscow, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“[In Donbass] they trust only themselves, but at the same time the degree of potential trust in Russia is very high. I wrote an observation on my blog when Russia suddenly, out of the blue, issued a decree that recognized documents - passports, diplomas, and so on. And I compared the DPR-LPR with a girl who has already despaired of getting recognition from her beloved, but her beloved turns away, does not call, does not write, and pretends that she is not involved at all. And she resigned herself, hung her nose, and then a phone call or SMS, and again her heart hit the ceiling.
That is, believe me, Russia has quite a large potential, a resource for such steps forward, after which the hearts of the residents of the republics will fly into the ceiling, and all grievances will be forgotten instantly. But why take such small steps towards what everyone is waiting for here and now?” - said Zamdykhanov.
According to him, it is important to take into account that Donbass does not have much time to remain in its current situation, maintaining its potential.
“I’m afraid that another 5-10 years of this status (and they will pass quickly), and we can forget about Donbass as an industrial region. There will be an area with very weak agricultural production, which will be enough to meet the needs of the local population, and that’s it, no one else will need it. The local population will also not be that large, because if the industry leaves, then most of the population of Donbass will also leave these places, and Donbass by definition does not need too many agricultural workers...
What to do - both politically and administratively, Donbass needs to be integrated into Russia, and in the same way from an economic point of view. But these obstacles that exist between Russia and the Donbass republics must be removed,” added the Donetsk journalist.
