All property of the ex-president of Armenia was seized, except for his pension
In Armenia, the court arrested all the property of former President Robert Kocharyan, except for his pension, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This was announced by his lawyer Hovhannes Khudoyan, Interfax reports.
“All property and income have been seized, except for pensions. This property has not been appraised, but the appraisal process is mandatory,” Khudoyan said.
According to him, the Shengavit Court of General Jurisdiction of Yerevan will continue to consider the lawyers’ petition to cancel the arrest on June 6, 2019.
Let us remind you that Kocharyan, who is under arrest, is accused of overthrowing the constitutional order in Armenia in March 2008, when, according to investigators, a secret order was signed to use army forces to disperse rallies.
On March 1, 2008, participants in a rally of many thousands protesting against the results of the presidential elections, which Serzh Sargsyan won, were dispersed. Ten people were killed and more than 250 were injured. Kocharyan considers the accusation brought against him for overthrowing the constitutional order in 2008 to be political persecution.
In August 2018, the Court of Appeal overturned Kocharyan's arrest. The ex-president remained in the status of a suspect, but was released.
