This was stated by Minister Vadim Chernysh on Thursday during the presentation of the bill, the Ukrinform agency reports.
“We cannot leave out of sight people who are political prisoners due to the actions of the aggressor. The state must provide not only moral support, but also our material and social support to such categories of people. This will demonstrate the respect of the Ukrainian state for its own citizens who are suffering. Also, the state must take care of those people who find themselves in the occupied territories in difficult circumstances due to persecution and provide them with assistance. This bill is our initiative together with Mustafa Dzhemilev,” said Chernysh.
According to the draft law, monthly persons recognized as political prisoners or members of their families will be provided with state social assistance in the amount of two minimum wages, as well as a number of benefits, in particular, free annual medical examination, free legal assistance, etc.
According to Chernysh, the draft law is aimed at legal recognition as political prisoners of persons deprived of personal freedom for political reasons in connection with their social or political activities in territories where state authorities and local governments of Ukraine temporarily do not exercise their powers or on the so-called “temporarily occupied territory."
At the moment, the draft law is at the discussion stage and has not yet been registered in the Verkhovna Rada.
