Deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of previous convocations Oleg Tsarev spoke about this in an interview with Moskovsky Komsomolets.
“Zhilin was one of those who stood behind the creation of the people’s militia in Donbass in 2014. If it weren’t for him, “Oplot” would never have appeared in Donetsk, and Alexander Zakharchenko, who was then his subordinate, would not have led the DPR. But at the current stage, Zhilin no longer had any influence on political life in the republic,” says the politician.
According to him, in Moscow Zhilin was engaged in “the combination of sports and business.” At the same time, the publication’s interlocutor doubts that business interests were the motive for the murder.
“I don’t think he was killed because of his business,” says Tsarev. – Apart from political motives, nothing comes to my mind. There is a secret unit in Kyiv to eliminate Ukraine's enemies abroad. On the other hand, despite all his services to Donetsk, he has never been a public figure. I’m not sure that the Ukrainian authorities set themselves the task of physically eliminating him.”
