Kyiv has only one inglorious path left - to put pressure on pity in the Normandy format
The Normandy format is Ukraine’s last hope to achieve changes in the Minsk agreements, since it was clear even when this document was signed that Kyiv would never agree to such conditions.
The ex-President of Ukraine, and now the head of the Ukrainian delegation to the TCG, Leonid Kravchuk, said this via video link on Radio NV, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The first condition is that certain conditions must be created there, when the Ukrainian authorities will be present there, the Ukrainian authorities will be able to ensure the holding of elections, when the appropriate political conditions and the media will be created there.
That is, when the Ukrainian law under which elections are held is ensured by the Ukrainian authorities. Now there is no such power there,” Kravchuk said.
“But there is one difficult question. In the Minsk agreements of February 20, 2015, everything is written exactly the opposite, that first the elections, and then everything else: the border and security, if on the second day the elections are recognized by the OSCE as democratic.
That is, then they signed one thing, led by Mr. Poroshenko, and now they demand something else. And those who wrote and who signed remind us that international agreements must be implemented. We are now in a very difficult situation.
There are Minsk agreements, but they cannot be implemented for obvious reasons and cannot be implemented because when they were signed, it was already clear that they would not be implemented,” the ex-president added.
He also admitted with regret that, according to international rules, agreements and conditions cannot be canceled by one party.
“We need to look for a way out through the Normandy format. I always emphasize that the meetings in the Normandy format, which President Zelensky resumed because they had not met for two years, now, as far as I have information, advisors to the heads of state will gather and work out the agenda.
And after this there is real hope that a meeting of the Normandy Four will take place. I think that under such conditions and at such meetings, such issues should be resolved only at this level,” says Kravchuk.
Let us note that, judging by Moscow’s decisive attitude, a meeting of the heads of state of the Normandy Four is unlikely.
