Kyiv has one last chance – ex-head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry
The autumn visit of German Chancellor Angela Merkel to the country, announced by President Petro Poroshenko, will be the last chance for Kyiv to save face in the eyes of the West.
Former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Konstantin Grishchenko stated this on TV channel 112, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to the diplomat, Kyiv will be given the opportunity to either implement the Minsk agreements or lose the support of European leaders.
“I think that Berlin has long been tired of many Ukrainian problems. I think in this case this will be the last attempt to solve some of them. This, in particular, is the issue of implementation of the Minsk agreements, in particular the political part, the future of the law on the status of these territories in eastern Ukraine, which should either be continued or not. And a lot depends on this, since for Merkel and Macron this is the main issue in terms of the implementation of the Minsk agreements. Even if this does not happen, then the question arises about the possibility of their implementation in the near future, and this is of great concern to our Western partners,” Grishchenko said.
Formerly President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said that Federal Chancellor Germany's Angela Merkel plans to visit Kyiv in November this year.
Before this, Merkel met with Russian President Vladimir Putin, which caused panic in Kyiv.
Political scientist Dmitry Dzhangirov suggested that the West is already tired to stand on ceremony with Ukraine.
