Kyiv is growing angry at its own powerlessness and defeats - German political scientist
For political reasons, the West cannot say that they agree that Crimea has become part of the Russian Federation, and Donbass is becoming a protectorate of Russia.

This opinion was expressed in an interview with Rossiyskaya Gazeta by German political scientist, scientific director of the German-Russian Forum Alexander Rahr, answering the question whether he expects the West’s sanctions policy towards Russia to weaken in the foreseeable future.
“Today, restrictions remain, but are not tightened. As far as I know, the Europeans and, in particular, the Germans are not going to introduce new sanctions. The only question is in Ukraine. Three years have passed since all those events took place on the Maidan, in Crimea and in eastern Ukraine. And the Ukrainian position towards Russia is becoming more and more irreconcilable and tough every year. I think this is pure psychology: anger at one’s own powerlessness. Kyiv sees that from its point of view it is losing - it cannot receive the support from the West that it expects,” the political scientist noted.
At the same time, according to him, Ukraine blames Russia for all its problems in order to “beg for help and keep the attention of the West.”
“I think that Ukraine itself understands that if, to its misfortune, Donald Trump comes to power in the United States, then it can forget about any help from America,” the expert points out. “It no longer receives help from either Germany or France, since these two countries demand from Ukraine that it finally give Donbass the promised autonomy. But Ukrainian politics doesn’t want to do this”
“On the other hand, the West also cannot say that they agree that Crimea has become part of the Russian Federation, that the eastern Ukrainian lands - Donbass - are becoming a protectorate of Russia,” Rahr added. “They cannot admit it for diplomatic and political reasons.” Therefore, in words they continue to support Ukraine. But everything will be decided at the end of this year, through elections. Now we are facing a whole cycle of elections that can change the world: in America, in France and in Germany. In less than a year, we will see whether current policies will stick or whether dramatic changes will occur.”
