Activists believe that instead of increasing travel fares, it is necessary to introduce “open accounting”: daily online control over the expenses and income of budgetary institutions. The unprofitability of transport is a consequence of corruption; there can be no talk of increasing fares as long as people are deprived of objective information about tariff setting, the organizers of the rally believe.
A transparent financial audit of route buses owned by the Kyivpastrans enterprise is also necessary. On a number of routes there is no accounting for the sale of travel tickets - coupons are often not issued to passengers when paying for travel.
Revenue from advertising space in public transport is received by intermediary companies, and not by the utility companies themselves.
Activists also propose to subsidize passenger transportation by taxing owners of large cars and luxury housing, as well as paying entry into the city center.
First Deputy Chairman Igor Nikonov came out to the crowd, the picketers conveyed their demands, set out in a letter addressed to Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko and the head of the Kiev City Council Standing Committee on Budget Issues.
