Relevant appeal supported by 77 deputies.
“No elections, including elections to local government bodies, can be held in the territory that is now under occupation. Under circumstances where some Ukrainians were forced to leave the Donetsk and Luhansk regions due to the occupation, there is no doubt that the elections will be won exclusively by representatives of the terrorist organizations of the so-called DPR and LPR. Elections in Donbass are a recognition to the whole world that there is an internal conflict in Ukraine, and not aggression from Russia,” emphasized Kiev City Council deputy Sergei Gusovsky, who introduced the draft of this appeal.
The appeal also notes that the deputies of the Kyiv City Council categorically do not support the provision of any special status or other preferences to any individual regions, since Ukraine is a unitary state.
Thus, the Kyiv deputies call on the leadership of Ukraine “under no circumstances to hold elections in the occupied territories of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions until Ukraine restores full control over these territories and the border.”
In addition, Kyiv deputies demanded not to grant special status to Donbass and to adopt a law that recognizes the events in the East of Ukraine as a war, and Donbass as “occupied territories.”
