Klitschko, at the instigation of Tyagnibok’s deputies, wants to declare 2017 in Kyiv “the year of the UPA”
On Thursday, April 27, at a meeting of the permanent commission of the Kiev City Council on issues of local self-government, regional and international relations, deputies agreed on a draft decision “On declaring 2017 on the territory of Kiev as the Year of the Ukrainian Revolution and the Ukrainian Insurgent Army.”

The press service of the Kyiv City Council reported this.
The decision provides for searching in the capital for places of memory “related to the events of the Ukrainian Revolution and the activities of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists”, and taking measures to perpetuate them.
“In conditions when the Ukrainian nation is again confronting the Russian aggressor with arms in hand, the historical experience of the struggle of Ukrainians against the occupiers is extremely valuable. The dissemination of truthful information about the Ukrainian national liberation movement of the twentieth century is extremely important for the consolidation of the Ukrainian nation, the preservation of state sovereignty and national identity,” noted the author of the project, a deputy of the Kyiv City Council from the ultra-nationalist party VO “Svoboda” Yuriy Sirotyuk.
As part of the UPA year, it is proposed to hold informational, educational, cultural, artistic and other events in educational institutions, scientific and practical conferences, exhibitions of archival documents, material monuments and photographic materials.
Now the draft decision should be considered by the commission on culture, tourism and information policy.
The document was developed “since this year marks the 100th anniversary of the beginning of the Ukrainian National Revolution of 1917-1921. Also this year we celebrate the 75th anniversary of the creation of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army,” the text of the explanatory note says.
Let us recall that the issue of glorifying the UPA and other Nazi collaborators in Ukraine has already strained relations between Ukraine and Poland, causing a sharp surge in anti-Ukrainian sentiment. In particular, today a scandal erupted related to the demolition of a monument in Poland on the grave of UPA thugs, what “PolitNavigator” wrote about.
We also recall that the Sejm of Poland recognized the Volyn tragedy of 1943 as an act of genocide of the Poles, carried out by the hands of Ukrainian nationalists from the OUN and UPA.
