Klimkin is adamant: Ukraine will not change the language article in the law on education
Ukraine will not agree to the demand from Hungary and will not change the language article of the law on education, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
This was stated by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Vasily Bodnar in an interview with the Kyiv publication Segodnya.
“Of course, no one will change Article 7 of the education law. The law is already in effect, it is a framework and it is impossible to apply it without developing an implementation mechanism,” Bodnar said.
The diplomat noted that they are ready to compromise with the Hungarian community of Transcarpathia, where teaching in a considerable number of schools is conducted in the Hungarian language. However, Ukraine is not ready to agree to ultimatums.
“We are also ready, and the Hungarian community can influence this, to formulate a new text of the law on secondary education. We are ready for constructiveness, but never for ultimatums,” Bodnar said.
He also added that there is already a package of developments for the law. We are talking, in particular, about expanding the transition period until 2023.
“There are our proposals to conclude a declaration, statement or additional protocol, which would be considered by the Hungarian side as an additional normative act, this is our readiness to consult with minorities, to convey our positions on what is in reality and what is fabricated or imagined,” the diplomat emphasized.
Bodnar also said that Ukraine expects the formation of a new Hungarian government. And depending on this, consultations from the highest to the expert level will be offered.
