Deputy Foreign Minister Elena Zerkal stated this in an interview with the Kyiv publication European Truth.

“I hope we will finally complete the so-called open skies agreement,” she said, adding that there was reason for such optimism.

“Now Mariano Rajoy (Prime Minister of Spain - ed.) promised that they will adhere to the position of excluding small airports from the agreement, and this will remove the problem of Gibraltar and open up our further movement towards “open skies,” Zerkal noted and emphasized that Great Britain also agrees with this position.

The signing of an agreement on a joint aviation space between Ukraine and the EU was postponed by the European side due to disputes between Spain and the UK over the territorial ownership of Gibraltar airport. The situation has become more complicated against the backdrop of Brexit, since the exit of the United Kingdom from the EU will mean the exit of British Gibraltar.

The text of the “open skies” agreement was agreed upon by Ukraine and the EU on October 21-22, 2013 and initialed at the summit in Vilnius on November 29, 2013, but the document has not yet been signed.

Let us remember that the visa-free regime with the EU promised by Petro Poroshenko did not work, and the prospects for returning to the discussion of this topic were postponed to mid-2017.
