“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine expresses a strong protest against the intention of the Russian Federation to carry out conscription for military service in the temporarily occupied territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and in the city of Sevastopol (Ukraine),” the statement says.
The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry also states that “according to international humanitarian law, an occupying state is prohibited from forcing protected persons to serve in its armed or auxiliary forces, just as it is prohibited from exerting pressure and conducting propaganda in favor of voluntary joining the army.” .
