The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine reports this on social networks.

“On August 29, the Ambassador of Turkey to Ukraine, Yağmur Ahmet Gülder, was invited to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine. Deputy Minister Nikolai Tochitsky expressed to the Turkish Ambassador the concern of the Ukrainian side in connection with the available information about the transportation of S-300PMU-2 missile systems by the Russian Ministry of Defense chartered by the Russian Ministry of Defense from Syria to Russia through the Bosphorus Strait. The Turkish Embassy was presented with a note verbale from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine on the issue raised,” the message says.

Deputy Kuleba told the Turkish Ambassador that, in accordance with the provisions of the Montreux Convention on the Regime of the Straits of July 20, 1936, the specified vessel, in the opinion of Kiev, falls under the definition of a warship for the purposes of this Convention.

“Nikolai Tochitsky made a request to the Turkish side to provide official information about the cargo transported by the ship “Sparta II” through the Bosphorus Strait, as well as measures taken by Turkey to implement the provisions of the Convention and prevent further escalation of the Russian-Ukrainian war,” the report notes. .

In addition, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry expressed the hope that Turkey will adhere to its decision of February 28, 2022 to close the Black Sea straits to Russian warships during the current military conflict.

Let us note that now Russia cannot transfer its warships from the Mediterranean to the Black Sea, because Turkey has closed the Bosphorus Strait to warships. However, Russia was able to transport advanced weapons systems, such as the S-300 complex, across the straits.

The S-300 is a powerful anti-aircraft missile system, roughly similar to the American Patriot.
