Lavrov accused Latvia of indulging nitsomism
The Russian Foreign Ministry was indignant at the information that the Latvian Seimas adopted in the second reading a law that equalizes the rights of people who fought on both sides of the front in World War II.

Official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova told reporters about this today, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“For the authors of the document, it does not matter at all on whose side these citizens fought: Nazi Germany or the anti-Hitler coalition. Thus, the Latvian authorities took another step towards whitewashing Nazi criminals, equating the soldiers of the Latvian SS Legion with the veterans of the Red Army who liberated the world from fascism,” Zakharova said.
She recalled that this is not the first case of “open glorification of fascist criminals by official Riga, coupled with persecution of Soviet army veterans.”
“Each time the Latvian authorities cross another line. The law confirms that the process of substitution of concepts is taking on increasingly uglier forms. The blasphemous nature of this initiative is obvious. We expect to hear an adequate assessment from international specialized structures and veterans’ organizations,” Zakharova said.
