The LPR and DPR do not have the authority to change the status of Crimea, let Russia and Ukraine sort it out themselves – Deinego

The mention of Crimea as part of Ukraine in the draft amendments to the Constitution prepared by the republics was explained in the LPR by the lack of authority to change the basic law in connection with the annexation of the peninsula to Russia.

This was announced by the LPR plenipotentiary representative in the Contact Group, Vladislav Deinego.

“It is not our competence to make changes to the Constitution of Ukraine regarding the presence or absence of Crimea in its composition. We act exactly within the framework of the Minsk agreements. There is no word about Crimea in the Minsk agreements,” he explained.

Therefore, according to him, changes were made to the relevant articles only in relation to the status of areas controlled by the DPR and LPR.

“We are opening the current version of the Constitution of Ukraine: “certain districts of the Donetsk region”, “certain districts of the Lugansk region” have been added there. They just added two subjects to these articles,” Deinego clarified.

In addition, he noted that the self-proclaimed republics have always been ready to remain part of Ukraine as federal subjects.

“The fact that Lugansk and Donetsk are ready to compromise with the Kyiv authorities was not stated now in our proposals to the Constitution, and not even in the winter. This was announced by the republics back in September last year at the first meeting in Minsk,” Deinego said.

As PolitNavigator reported, the DPR and LPR agreed to remain part of Ukraine.
