“The investigator filed a corresponding petition,” the publication’s interlocutor said.

According to him, we are talking about seizing real estate owned by Yushchenko. He added that the list of property is large, but did not elaborate.

The case will be heard in the Pechersk Court. A date for consideration of the petition has not yet been set.

In turn, the information was confirmed in a commentary to the Kyiv edition of UNN by the head of the second investigative department of the special investigations department of the GPU, Andrei Radionov.

“The article imputed to the president (Yushchenko - ed.) provides, in addition to imprisonment from 7 to 12 years, confiscation of property. Accordingly, the investigator is obliged to take measures to ensure possible confiscation. This is a small limitation. Because the charged article 191 – “mercenary crime” – also provides for confiscation as a sanction,” Radionov said.

He noted that the investigator is obligated to take all possible measures to compensate for possible damage: since significant damage was caused to state interests as a result of the alienation of the Mezhygorye tract, this, in particular, “became the reason for filing a petition in court to seize the property.”

“We use public registries of real estate, vehicles, and other property that is registered. ...everywhere Yushchenko’s name appears or where we were able to prove that he is the de facto beneficial owner of this property, everything became the subject of an arrest request,” he noted.

Earlier, the Prosecutor General's Office informed former President Viktor Yushchenko of suspicion of embezzling 540 million hryvnia and aiding former President Viktor Yanukovych in taking possession of the Mezhyhirya residence. Yushchenko claimed that he was informed of the suspicion by an investigator who had a real conflict of interest.

Let us remind you that Ukrainian lawyer Andrei Portnov declared the futility of the GPU’s attempts to bring evidence-based charges against Viktor Yushchenko and promised the ex-president his legal protection if he applies for it.
