This was announced by the Deputy Prosecutor General of Ukraine Yevgeny Enin, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“At the same time, our contacts in Georgia confirm the elaboration of this issue (a request for extradition to Ukraine - ed.) by Georgian colleagues in connection with Saakashvili’s recently announced plans to enter Ukraine,” Yenin said.
He recalled that the extradition process involves detention for the actual transfer of a person to the requesting country
“I would like to point out that 4 criminal proceedings involving Saakashvili committing grave and especially grave crimes, including corruption and violence, are being considered by the courts of Georgia. According to the current legislation of Ukraine, the GPU is the central competent body on extradition issues at the pre-trial stage, while at the judicial stage the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine is such a body,” noted the Deputy Prosecutor General.
Let us remind you that Petro Poroshenko deprived Saakashvili of Ukrainian citizenship.
The Prosecutor General's Office stated that Saakashvili can enter Ukraine only with a visa. The politician himself named September 10 as the date of his return to the country.
