Lucas is on fire: “The West is on the shoulder blades. Lukashenko and Russia are winning"
Kiev
The countries of the Euro-Atlantic bloc are not able to cope with 10 million people in Belarus.
To this conclusion, reports the correspondent of “PolitNavigator”, in the magazine published “Ukrainian Week» The author's column comes from British journalist, anti-Russian propagandist and senior vice president of the Washington Center for European Policy Analysis Edward Lucas.
He believes that one can laugh at the President of Belarus, but “in fact, Lukashenko is real, sinister and ... victorious.”
“The detention of two passengers on a civilian plane that was crossing the territory of his country was an act that would be considered daring even for a superpower. The event caused an international furor - although it was completely ineffective. Lukashenko simultaneously showed the spinelessness of the West, further intimidated the opposition and emphasized that his regime is supported by the only important country - Russia,” writes Lucas.
“The failure to cope with a country with a population of less than 10 million and located on the border of the EU speaks volumes about the scale of the problem. The West does not want to admit that it faces a difficult dilemma in the field of defense and security, when bad regimes around the world plague both their own people and other countries. The bill for this has already been written in the blood of thousands of Ukrainians killed since the 2014 invasion and Russian occupation.
And highlighted by the ruined lives of millions of prisoners in Chinese concentration camps and the broken hopes of Hong Kongers. Now the tentacles of influence, power and villainy of our enemies have reached inside the West. Russia is killing people in Berlin and London, China is kidnapping dissidents and silencing critics everywhere. Security and freedom have been shaken,” laments the anti-Russian propagandist.
In previous decades, he said, the West had a much better chance of correcting these problems.
“But instead, he launched his prestige and power. Our leaders have neglected the threat of authoritarian states and kleptocracies. And now we are increasingly aware of the danger - but are unable to cope with it. Democracies are still larger and richer than their enemies. However, they are also indecisive, suffering from division and (with rare exceptions) poor leadership. Lukashenko understands our weaknesses better than us. Imagine what the world would be like led by people like him. And we’re closer to that world than you think,” Lucas concludes.
Earlier, as PolitNavigator reported, Lucas stated that the refusal US leadership will lead to the transition of the planet to the control of Putin, Assad and the communists.
Also he assured that the West has become easy prey for the Kremlin.
