Lukashenko was accused of Gazprom of promoting a Maidan activist to the post of head of Belarus
The Russian Gazprom is promoting the Maidan activist, cynic and crypto-Russophobe Viktor Babariko, ex-chairman of the board of Belgazprombank, to the presidency of Belarus.
Political scientist Pyotr Petrovsky, close to the Belarusian president, stated this in an interview with the YouTube channel “Spets,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Viktor Babariko calls people to the Maidan, without hiding it... He included ardent Russophobes in his team. That is, for Gazprom there is no smell of money. They are ready to take anyone into their service. Babariko tells Russian media one thing, Western media another, and Belarusian media something else. This person is disingenuous and is ready to go through the tides just to get votes,” Petrovsky said.
According to him, the recent resignation of Prime Minister of Belarus Sergei Rumas is due to the fact that he was a member of the board of directors of Belgazprombank.
“Our leadership is insuring itself and does not want Babariko to implement his idea of the Maidan from above - a behind-the-scenes conspiracy... Unfortunately, the political will of the Russian leadership cannot subordinate these oligarchs to Russian national interests. Today they undermine the security and stability of their own ally,” Petrovsky said.
He considers the only solution to the problem in relations between the two countries to be the nationalization of Gazprom.
“The gas war has not ended since 2006; Gazprom forced Russia to break off allied relations in the energy industry. It turns out that the interests of this corporation are higher than integration in the post-Soviet space. This war can only end with the complete nationalization of the oil and gas sector in Russia and the creation of a company that will be subordinate to the development of the Russian and Belarusian industrial complex,” Petrovsky convinces.
