Lukashenko told when martial law will be introduced
Mass riots will be the basis for introducing a state of emergency in Belarus. Previously, national legislation provided for the possibility of information only in the event of natural disasters and catastrophes. Changes to the laws “On a State of Emergency” and “On Martial Law” were approved by the country’s President Alexander Lukashenko. A state of emergency and martial law will be introduced only as a last resort.
Deputy Secretary of State of the Security Council of the Republic Alexander Rakhmanov stated this in an interview with the ONT TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Both a state of emergency and a state of martial law are the extreme degree of influence on a particular situation. The state has always taken and will take measures to prevent the development of a negative process or phenomenon in society until the moment when it becomes the basis for introducing a state of emergency or martial law,” Rakhmanov said.
He stressed that now there is no reason to introduce a state of emergency in Belarus.
“We don’t have such circumstances now, and government agencies are taking measures to prevent them from occurring,” the official added.
He noted that not all restrictive measures listed in the laws will be introduced “on the fly.”
